The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nationalist Group (PNG) has strongly denounced the oppressive agenda against Southerners and Christians within the party, perpetuated by certain leaders.

In a statement issued by the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Chibuike Tobias Nwosu, and Secretary, Barr. Osamudiamen Omoruyi, they expressed their dismay and anger regarding the discriminatory actions of these leaders.

The PNG highlighted the ongoing suppression of Southern PDP members, particularly in their access to party and leadership positions.

These discriminatory practices not only undermine the principles of fairness and inclusivity but also contribute to the perception that the PDP is anti-South and anti-Christian.

Furthermore, the group criticized the collusion between Northern PDP leaders and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of attempting to manipulate newly elected PDP Senators and Representatives to support Northern candidates for the positions of Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The PNG cautioned a specific Northern PDP leader, emphasizing the negative consequences of such divisive ethnic and religious politics.

They stressed that this maneuvering would result in another Northern non-Christian assuming the role of Senate President, marking sixteen years of Northern dominance in that position, with non-Christian Northerners holding the post for the past eight years.

The group argued that there are numerous qualified Southerners who could occupy this position under the current dispensation.

By acquiescing to this undemocratic scenario, the PDP would inadvertently contribute to a system that disregards the interests of Nigerians, fostering an environment with a non-Christian President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The PNG’s firm condemnation serves as a call for the PDP to rectify its internal disparities, uphold democratic values, and promote a more inclusive and representative leadership that respects the diversity of Nigeria’s population.
