In a press briefing at the State House, George Akume, the newly appointed Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), expressed his commitment to serving the Nigerian people to the best of his abilities.
Akume, a former governor of Benue state and a prominent member of the ruling party APC, was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
Acknowledging the magnitude of the responsibility bestowed upon him, Akume emphasized that he saw his selection as a challenge to fulfill the oath he had taken.
He assured Nigerians that he would not let them down, pledging to uphold the interests of the President, the country, and his party.
He conveyed his belief that, with the guidance of God, he would discharge his duties in a manner that would bring fulfillment to the Nigerian people and yield the dividends of democracy.
Drawing inspiration from President Tinubu, Akume vowed to follow in his footsteps, emphasizing the President’s reputation as a proactive leader who shuns mere criticism and actively engages in making a difference.
He stressed the need for dedication and determination to avoid failure in the pursuit of national progress.
Boss Mustapha, the immediate past SGF, also weighed in on the matter, offering words of advice to his successor.
Mustapha highlighted the formidable nature of the job, noting its importance in coordinating government activities and shaping policies and programs.
He emphasized that Akume would oversee multiple ministries through his office and play a pivotal role in driving and coordinating government initiatives.
However, Mustapha expressed confidence in Akume’s preparedness and predicted that he would elevate the office to new heights.
As Akume assumes his role as SGF, Nigerians await the implementation of his vision and eagerly anticipate the impact he will have on governance and national development.
