In a recent development, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the alleged former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has finally broken his silence on the reports surrounding his supposed resignation.
The situation appears to have been fueled by opposition forces, particularly those aligned with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who supposedly hold a list of accusations against Adamu dating back to last year when Tinubu declared his presidential aspirations.
It is speculated that some influential figures within the party plan to meet with Adamu on Sunday night or early Monday to exert pressure on him to resign voluntarily, rather than being forcibly removed.
This move is likely in anticipation of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where a timetable for a midterm elective convention to fill party vacancies is expected to be approved.
One of the reasons for seeking Adamu’s removal is his alleged improper handling of the party’s financial accounts, specifically regarding the appointment of an external auditor.
The party’s constitution states that only the NEC has the authority to appoint an external auditor to review the party’s financial records.
However, it is claimed that Adamu enlisted his own auditor without following the proper procedure.
This has resulted in dissent among some members of the National Working Committee (NWC), who also accuse Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary of the party, of operating the party solely in tandem with Adamu.
Rumors of Adamu’s resignation were circulating even before the scheduled meeting, but no official confirmation has been received from him.
The party’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, also refrained from commenting on the issue, stating that they cannot provide information they are not aware of.
An NWC member expressed surprise at the news and emphasized that no official communication had been received regarding Adamu’s resignation.
Meanwhile, when contacted by Daily Trust, Adamu declined to comment, stating that he would wait for the return of President Bola Tinubu from his trip to the African Union AU meeting in Kenya before addressing the matter.
As the situation unfolds, the APC faces potential changes and internal restructuring ahead of the midterm elective convention, as it seeks to fill vacancies and solidify its position for future political challenges.
