The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will on Saturday, March 26, 2022, hold its national convention to elect leaders that will pilot the affairs of the party.

This is coming on the heels of the internal crisis rocking the party with the removal of Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni as the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and the emergence of his counterpart from Niger, Abubakar Sani Bello as acting chairman.

Buni who is currently in Dubai for medication was reportedly removed after President Muhammadu Buhari got wind of his plot to scuttle the convention and remain as party chairman beyond March 26.

Despite the infighting within the party, the convention is expected to go ahead as planned with aspirants already in advanced lobbying for the support of party members.

The aspirants include Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State; Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura, another ex-Nasarawa Governor; ex-Governor and current minister George Akume; Turakin Ilorin, Mallam Saliu Mustapha; Senator Sani Mohammed Musa; a former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bawa Bwari; and Mohammed Etsu.

Others are ex-governor Abdulaziz Yari; ex-Governor Ali Modu Sheriff; ex-Governor Isa Yuguda; Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi and Sunny Sylvester Monidafe.

The list is comprised of six former governors and three serving senators.

Findings from the Nigeria News House (NNH) indicates that the zoning committee led by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahaman AbdulRazaq may have zoned the chairmanship position of the party to the North-Central Zone, a move that will give an advantage to aspirants from the region.
