BREAKING: Buhari To Sign Electoral Bill Friday

Barring any last minute change of plans, President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law on Friday, February 25, 2022, Nigeria News House (NNH) can reliably report.

This is coming a day after Civil Society Organizations staged a protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja over the delay by President Buhari to assent the bill into law.

Recall that the National Assembly transmitted the amended Electoral Act bill on 31st January 2022 after amending clause 84 to include Direct Primaries, Indirect Primaries and Consensus as modes of selecting party candidates for election.

The Electoral Act amendment bill 2021 is expected to bring sanity and transparency to the electoral process.

The bill makes provision for the use of card readers, disqualification of members of political parties from taking up employment or appointment in INEC, and makes provision for electronic transmission of results.

President Buhari has a thirty-day window to sign the bill into law.
