The All Progressives Congress (APC) and their presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have initiated legal proceedings to prevent opposition parties from halting the ongoing collation of presidential election results from Saturday.

The APC and Tinubu filed a suit against the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party, seeking to restrain them from preventing the continuous announcement and collation of results.

The suit, marked FHC/KN/CS/43/2023, was filed before the Federal High Court in Kano, with the Action Alliance and the Independent National Electoral Commission listed as defendants, and the APC vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, also named as a plaintiff. The plaintiffs, in a motion on notice filed alongside the originating summons, have asked the court to make an order restraining the defendants from stopping the collation and announcement of results.

They argued that damages would not adequately compensate for the injury that may be caused if the defendants stop the collation of the result.
