Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has condemned the attack on a military check point at Obikabia junction in Aba, Abia State by yet-to-be identified assailants which left two soldiers dead.
Kalu, in a statement described the killing of the military personnel who were doing their lawful duty as unwarranted, unjust, cruel and condemnable.
The deputy speaker, who is representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, emphasized that while efforts are ongoing to address the rising wave of insecurity and restore peace in the whole of the South-East region through a non kinetic approach, it was unnecessary to engage in acts capable of truncating the gains already made.
He, therefore, appealed to the people to support the federal government which has vested unusual interest in the development of the South-East, stressing that doing otherwise will affect the fortunes of the region.
