The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested an outdoor advertisement executive for a political advertisement about the 2023 elections. The commission’s name and logo were displayed on two billboards in Enugu State. Some politicians were threatened in the general election by the messages on the boards at the intersections of Otigba and Zik Avenues. In a statement on Sunday, the spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said operatives arrested Baron Nnamdi, the alleged designer, printer, and owner of the billboards. Nnamdi claimed that a media aide to a former deputy governor of Enugu who is running for governor hired him.
The suspect claimed he was paid N160,000 for the one-week campaign and that his aide provided the messages, EFCC logo, and photos. “The commission went to both sites and took the offensive advertisement down.”
The statement warned politicians not to break the rules or drag the EFCC “into the political fray.”
