An explosion at a tank farm on the Abonema Wharf axis of Port Harcourt, River State’s capital, has destroyed properties and products worth millions of naira.
Residents who use the temporary buildings to store petroleum products and other combustible items, which spark fire at the least error, according to the state authorities.
Dr. Peter Medee, the Rivers State Commissioner for Energy, said in a report that the government is considering demolishing temporary structures in the vicinity of petroleum tank farms.
Other unapproved locations would be dismantled to prevent the outbreak from reoccurring, he added.
The fire at the Abonnema Warf in Port Harcourt comes less than a week after a fire destroyed several trucks at an exhibit dump jointly owned by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Iriebe, along the Port Harcourt-Aba Express Way in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
