Many parts of Nigeria have been thrown into darkness following the collapse of the national grid.

Nigeria News House reports that today’s collapse makes it the third in less than a month.

“Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas,” Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said in a tweet on Friday.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria). We regret all inconvenience caused,” it added.

The Eko Distribution Company while confirming the development said the collapse affected its entire work.

“Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse,” EKEDC stated.

Reacting to the development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN says its in-house engineers have deployed a stop-gap solution to improve grid monitoring and acquisition of data from remote stations (power stations and transmission substations) to the National Control Centre.

Recall that the National Grid had collapsed in March leaving major cities in total darkness.
