Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has warned Israel of “destruction” following the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in an air strike in Beirut.
“We warn the leaders of the occupying regime that the unjust bloodshed… especially of Hezbollah’s secretary general, martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, will bring about their destruction,” Aref said.
Nasrallah’s death was confirmed by Hezbollah, which is armed and financed by Iran. Israel claimed responsibility for the air strike.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the US for its alleged “complicity” in Nasrallah’s killing and offered condolences.
Mourners gathered in Iran, waving Hezbollah flags and chanting “Death to Israel.” A black flag of mourning was hoisted at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.
Iran reiterated its support for the “Islamic resistance” and vowed to stand by Hezbollah.
Tensions between Iran, Israel, and the US are expected to escalate following Nasrallah’s killing.
