Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, on Saturday praised the United States over its nighttime operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, describing Washington as the “leader of the free world.”

In a post on X, Saar said Israel stood with the Venezuelan people, whom he said had suffered under Maduro’s rule.

“Israel stands alongside the freedom-loving Venezuelan people, who have suffered under Maduro’s illegal tyranny,” he wrote.

He welcomed Maduro’s removal, alleging that the Venezuelan leader presided over “a network of drugs and terror,” and expressed hope for a return to democracy in the South American country.

Saar also said Israel looked forward to friendly relations with a future democratic Venezuela.
