On Saturday, a two-story building on Chris Igadi Street in Lagos State’s Ago Palace Way neighborhood collapsed.

Our correspondent learned that residents of the building evacuated immediately after the structure indicated that it was about to collapse.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said no casualties were reported during the incident and that the site of the collapsed structure had been turned over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

“Around 3 a.m. this morning, the agency responded to the collapsed two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/AP filling station,” he said.

“Upon arrival, information gathered from residents revealed that the building displayed warning signs several hours before it collapsed.” Fortunately, no one was trapped because all of the occupants evacuated the area two hours before the collapse.

“An occupant count was performed to ensure that no occupants were missing, and the remains of the building were cordoned off.” The operation was completed at 5:23 a.m. LABSCA and the Ministry of Physical Planning will be given access to the site for further investigation.”
