A supervisor working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a corps member, and another official have allegedly been detained by the Nigeria Police Force’s Osun State command for allegedly manipulating the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voters Cards in the Osu region of the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the police claimed that 38 PVCs had been found on the suspects.

The police continued by saying that they had also sent out a manhunt for two PDP members, Wale Ojo and Ijamakinwa Olaoluwa, for allegedly pressuring the corps member to give a PVC belonging to one voter to another.

According to the statement, “On June 30, 2022, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the complainant reported to Osu Division that, on June 29, 2022, at approximately 1000 a.m., he went to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission located at the Atakumosa West Local Government Area, Osu, Osun State, to pick up his Permanent Voter Card but could not find it.

“He consequently demanded the register and found that one Orji Desmond Nkenna, a corps member attached to the INEC office as an ad hoc staff responsible for distributing voter cards, had obtained his PVC on the direction of one Wale Ojo and Ijamakinwa Olaoluwa, both members of the People’s Democratic Party, both of whom are currently at large.

After receiving the complaint, police detectives “immediately swung into action” and detained the main suspect, Mrs. Makanjuola Bilahu, “f,” 58, the INEC supervisor to the alleged corps member, and one Mr. Oluwatobi Ogini, “m,” 32, in order to ascertain the extent of their involvement.

However, when asked for comment, the Osun PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, asserted that no PDP member would engage in any illegal activity and that “it may be part of a larger APC strategy to indict our members.”

But I want to reassure you that the members of our party are law-abiding and incapable of taking any actions that would harm the party’s reputation.
