Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, has resigned as a result of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that all cabinet members seeking elective office in the 2023 elections tender their resignations by May 16, 2022.

The President’s instruction was announced at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

Buhari, on the other hand, singled out the minister for defying the odds and resigning. Nwajiuba is the first Minister to make his resignation public.

Nwajiuba had chosen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APCexpression )’s of interest and nomination forms to run for president in the 2023 general election.

Buhari had asked that all members of the FEC contesting for elective seats submit their letters of resignation on or by Monday, May 16, 2022, in an apparent bid to avert litigation that could jeopardize the chances of APC candidates in the upcoming elections.
