PROFESSIONALS IN PUBLIC RELATIONS APPLAUSE IGP FOR PROMOTING PUBLIC RELATIONS TENETS
– Applauds IGP’s strict adherence to the NIPR Act
IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has been praised for upholding the principles of public relations. In a letter previously circulated by the National President and Chairman of the Council Council, as well as letter no. NIPR/FCT/NPF/22/218 dated April 27th, 2022, received from its Abuja Chapter and signed by the Chairman, Mrs. Maryam M. Sanusi, mnipr, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) praised the IGP for his compliance with the provisions of the NIPR Act, CAP N114, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, that only qualified and certified members of the Institute shall be appointed spokespersons of organizations in both private and public sectors.
The IGP was praised for re-appointing CP Frank Mba, the former Force Public Relations Officer, as the 21st Indigenous IGP, and his successor, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who are both members of the NIPR and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), in accordance with the NIPR Act; and the establishment of the Nigeria Police Public Relations School, which will be commissioned soon. “His zeal for public relations development in the Police Department and throughout the country cannot be overstated,” said the PR experts.
The IGP also received assurances from the NIPR that it is ready to work with the Force Public Relations Officer and provide professional assistance as needed to help the Force achieve its organizational goals. Some institutions and agencies are breaking the law by appointing public relations officers who are not NIPR certified, according to the professional body.
The Inspector-General of Police, on the other hand, has repeatedly stated that his administration is committed to upholding all existing laws. He reiterated his policy of putting round pegs in round holes as the foundation for resounding success in every sphere of the police force, particularly in specialized sections such as accounts, medical, airwing, engineering, and information technology.
