The South-East Governors’ Forum has condemned an attack which left two Soldiers dead at a check point at Aba in Abia State on Thursday morning.

The attack, which occurred at Obikabia junction in Aba, was reportedly carried out by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a bid to enforce a sit-at-home directive.

The attackers were said to have also burnt down security patrol vehicles while enforcing the sit-at-home directive meant to commemorate Biafra Day.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri on Thursday, the Chairman of the Forum, and the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, described the attack as unfortunate portraying the people of the south-East region in bad light as if they lack empathy for human beings.

The governor, who extended his condolences to the Chief of Army Staff and the families of soldiers that lost their lives in the unfortunate incident, urged security agencies to do all they can to ensure that those behind the dastardly act were caught and prosecuted.

While noting that people of the South-East, out of fear of the unknown and memories of the past, obeyed the directive of the proscribed group, urging them to find courage and understand that a lot of efforts are being made to secure lives and property.
