Suleiman Abubakar Gumi, a Zamfara State representative for Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, stated Wednesday that over 30 communities have been looted in Zamfara State by bandits so far this month.

He made this statement while introducing a resolution calling for the military to send more troops to the state’s impacted areas in order to stop the increasing number of attacks.

According to Gumi, robbers recently raided many settlements in the state, roosted cattle, destroyed property, burned down police stations and food silos, and killed 16 people while injuring dozens more.

He claimed that there are always attacks in the neighborhood.

According to him, farmers abandoned their land in order to be safe, while people of roughly 71 communities evacuated their homes.

He claimed that the bandits taxed residents of the settlements and demanded ransom payments from those they kidnapped.

Gunmen have also issued eviction notices to residents of the villages of Sabon Zama, Gindin Dutse, Anguwan Tsohon Soldier, Anguwan Yuhana, and Anguwan Mangu in Plateau State’s Wase Local Government Area.

Pinau, a village 11km away from Wase, has been surrounded by the terrorists.

Residents claimed that masked gunmen assaulted the communities and threatened them with violence unless they left within five days.

A Pinau local named Ubale Pinau informed Daily Trust yesterday that the gunmen had issued a warning to leave the area or risk being attacked.

He claimed that a large number of people had begun migrating to Pinau and other larger towns for protection.

Major Ishaku Takwa, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, claimed he was unaware of the resignation notice when contacted.
