The Igbo Heroes and Icons Foundation (IHIF) has predicted a landslide victory for Peter Obi in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.

The group made the prediction in response to a recent statement attributed to Minister of Works Dave Umahi that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would secure votes across the region in the election.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chinedu Nsofor, the foundation described Obi as the strongest expression of what it considers the South-East’s aspiration to produce a Nigerian president of Igbo descent.

The group said the demand for an Igbo presidency was based on what it described as fairness, equity, justice and reciprocity, rather than opposition to other ethnic groups.

It argued that voters in the South-East had previously supported presidential candidates from other regions, including Shehu Shagari, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the foundation, after decades of supporting candidates from outside the region, the South-East should be given an opportunity to produce the president in 2027.

“The South East has watched presidential power move through different regions while the Igbo have yet to produce a president since independence,” the statement said.

The foundation also called on other opposition presidential candidates to consider building consensus around Obi, urging political leaders to support what it described as the region’s demand for equity.

“2027 is the time to give the Igbo people their turn. 2027 is the time for an Igbo presidency,” the group said.
