The French government announces plans to deploy more than 95,000 police and military personnel for New Year’s Eve celebrations, citing a heightened terrorist threat linked to the conflict in Israel and Palestine.

Paris, where a million revelers are expected on the Champs-Elysees, will see 6,000 security forces to ensure order.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin attributes the increased deployment to the anticipated larger crowd, marking additional celebrations for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

The national deployment includes 90,000 police or gendarmes, 5,000 members of the anti-terror military contingent Operation Sentinelle, and mobile units.

Security measures include a ban on alcoholic drinks in some areas, a prohibition on political demonstrations, body searches, and restrictions on carrying potential weapons.

Surveillance drones and heightened alertness of intelligence services are also part of the security plan.
