A meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), initially scheduled for today, has been postponed. ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the delay, which was reported on Monday.

The meeting, which was set to address ongoing issues between ASUU and the government, will now take place on Wednesday, August 28. No reason was given for the postponement.

This development comes on the heels of ASUU’s strike notice issued last Tuesday after a National Executive Committee meeting at the University of Ibadan. The union’s demands include an emergency revitalization fund for public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions.

Other concerns ASUU has raised involve the halt of illegal recruitments, the proliferation of public universities, the abuse of university laws, and the removal of universities from the Treasury Single Account.
