President Bola Tinubu will soon overhaul his cabinet, according to a confirmation from the Presidency on Wednesday. The reshuffle will be based on performance reports gathered over the past months.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and O’Tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant on Digital/New Media, revealed during a briefing at the Presidential Villa that while no specific timeline has been set, the president is committed to making changes.

Onanuga stated, “The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, but he has not given a specific timeline. He will do it when he is ready.”

Ogra added that the decision will be evidence-based, following assessments by Hadiza Bala-Usman, head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit. The reports will guide the president’s decision on which ministers stay or go.

There has been increasing pressure on Tinubu from within his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to remove underperforming ministers. Sources also suggest that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation may be scrapped, and some portfolios will either be merged or split.

President Tinubu, after a retreat for ministers last November, warned of consequences for underperformance, stating that ministers who fail to meet objectives would be replaced.

This move contrasts with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who largely kept his cabinet intact for eight years.
