Veteran Nigerian comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has shared the story behind his wife Mary’s influence in their decision to have triplets. The couple welcomed their three boys in April 2024.
In an exclusive interview on the *Leadership* podcast, Alibaba recounted how Mary’s desire for more children after their two daughters went abroad for studies ultimately led them to opt for In vitro fertilization (IVF).
“Madam had always wanted a son,” Alibaba revealed. Initially, he was hesitant about raising more children, especially with concerns about school runs and the economy. Mary, however, suggested adopting three children to fill the emptiness at home, but they instead chose IVF.
To their surprise, while trying for two children, one of the embryos split into two, leading to the birth of triplets. “They were like sometimes when God wants to bless you, you don’t know how he wants to bless you,” Alibaba recalled, adding that his wife and doctor knew but kept the triplet news a secret from him until later.
Despite his initial concerns, Alibaba credited Mary for helping ease his worries about raising multiple children in challenging economic times.
