The family of Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, announced his passing on Tuesday at the age of 73. According to a statement released by Engr. Emeka Onyia on behalf of the family, Chief Onyia succumbed to a brief illness on Monday, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
The statement described him as a distinguished statesman whose tenure was marked by an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s national interest. “Chief Onyia dedicated his life to God and public service, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape at home and overseas,” the statement read.
Beyond his notable contributions in government, Chief Onyia was remembered as a devoted husband, father, and mentor, whose wisdom and generosity touched countless lives. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and many other relatives, friends, and political allies.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course as the nation mourns the loss of a respected leader and trailblazer in Nigeria’s foreign affairs.
