Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, has resigned from the party and formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the Coalition of Nigeria Political Groups.
In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2025, Uli blamed the PDP’s leadership since 2022 for abandoning accountability and discipline, warning that internal mismanagement had set the party on a path to collapse.
“Signs began to manifest that the PDP’s collapse was imminent when some members began to see themselves as demigods, beyond discipline, no matter the level of atrocities they committed,” Uli stated.
A PDP member since 1998, Uli pledged to continue his political mission to “liberate Nigeria and Katsina State” on what he described as a more principled platform. He hailed the ADC as a “democratic, ideological, disciplined, and reliable” alternative.
His exit follows a wave of defections within the Katsina PDP. A faction loyal to former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, recently quit the party, comprising 287 former aspirants for state and local government offices.
Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, who chairs the forum of former chairmanship aspirants, cited betrayal and deceit as reasons for leaving.
“The PDP is no longer a viable opposition in Katsina,” he said. “We are now aligning under a broader coalition to challenge the ruling APC.”
At a recent political gathering, Inuwa directly accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of collaborating with APC elements to destabilize the PDP.
“We will not allow a single person to hijack a party that belongs to thousands in Katsina,” he warned.
The developments point to a major political realignment in the state as the 2027 elections draw near, with the ADC positioned as a growing force for opposition unity.
