Troops of the Nigerian Army, working with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 foreign nationals during an operation in Ogun State.
The suspects were picked up on June 11 across Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and nearby communities following intelligence-led raids, according to the Army.
They include 18 citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo and one from Senegal. The group consists of 36 men and 10 women.
Military officials said preliminary findings showed the suspects had lived in the area for about six months while their immigration status was being reviewed.
During questioning, they reportedly said they were traders and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform.
The Army said the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ogun State for further investigation and administrative action.
Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig. Gen. Friday Oguche Onu, commended the operation and urged residents to report suspicious activity to security agencies.
The military said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen border control and internal security.
