The House of Representatives has convened an emergency sitting to consider a bill seeking a three-month extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 budget.

A notice signed by the Acting Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Sidi, said lawmakers would meet on Monday, June 15, to consider the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025 (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2026.

The proposed legislation seeks to extend the implementation deadline for the capital aspect of the budget from June 30 to September 30, 2026.

The extension is intended to give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing projects and fully utilise funds allocated for infrastructure and other development programmes.

Lawmakers were urged to accord the sitting priority attendance as the House considers the amendment.

If approved by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, the measure would extend the lifespan of the capital component of the 2025 budget by three months.

The move is aimed at improving capital project execution and ensuring the completion of key government programmes across the country.
