Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has lost his bid to have the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, restrict him from running for President.
On Monday, the CBN Governor informed an Abuja court that he can run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without resigning from his job as CBN Governor.
The CBN Governor informed the court that because he is a civil servant and not a political appointee, Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act as amended, 2022 does not apply to him.
However, the court ordered INEC and the AGF to appear before it on May 12 to show cause why the CBN Governor should not be awarded status quo antebellum.
