Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos state, has confirmed reports of a shooting incident during his campaign in the Epe area of the state on Saturday, March 11.

While social media was filled with unconfirmed reports of the incident,

Gbadebo confirmed that some men who were wearing a political party’s campaign shirts obstructed their movement while they were campaigning in the community.

Speaking to Arise TV on Sunday, March 12, Gbadebo said that the police and DSS who were on his campaign train helped to prevent the situation from escalating.

He noted that there have been threats to his life, and Honorable Wale Oluwo and Honorable Najid of the PDP were also shot at during the incident.

The APC youths in the area were said to be angry because those shot at were wearing Greater Rising T-shirts.

Gbadebo expressed his desire to move away from the violence and intimidation that Lagos state has become known for, saying that doing one’s job shouldn’t involve intimidating people.

He went on to describe how the incident occurred, stating that as their convoy was moving, young men came out and tried to block the road.

The police and DSS were able to neutralize the situation without the use of force, despite being shot at and intimidated.
