A widow, Agnes Apande, has narrated how she watched in horror as her husband was hacked to death by suspected herdsmen in the Tse Agbande village in Nasarawa State.

The tragic incident occurred last Saturday when a group of nine armed men on motorcycles stormed the village and began shooting indiscriminately.

They then macheted Agnes’s husband, Matthew Apande, to death, leaving him with multiple cuts to his neck and body.

Agnes explained that she was watching a movie in her room with her son when the attack happened, but she didn’t dare to raise the alarm for fear of attracting the attention of the assailants.

The suspected herdsmen had reportedly invaded the village after their cattle had allegedly eaten the soya beans that Matthew and other villagers had planted to survive before the rainy season.

Agnes has called on security agencies to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

She is now left to raise her one-year-old son alone and has expressed frustration that her husband’s killers are still using his mobile phone.

This incident has once again highlighted the insecurity and violence perpetrated by herdsmen in rural areas and the urgent need for the government to address this menace.
