In an attempt to clear the air and address the misunderstandings surrounding his recent visits to President Bola Tinubu, former President Goodluck Jonathan has spoken out against the misinterpretations made by some politicians.

Jonathan’s statements were conveyed through his Special Assistant on Media, Ikechukwu Eze.

Jonathan emphasized that his visits to President Tinubu were aimed at updating him on the recent developments in the sub-region, considering Tinubu’s recent election as the Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

It’s noteworthy that Jonathan himself holds the position of Chairman of ECOWAS Council of the Wise.

Addressing the allegations made in the media about his intentions to nominate a minister from Bayelsa State for President Tinubu’s government, Jonathan dismissed the claims as false, malicious, and unnecessary.

He clarified that neither the authors of these allegations, nor their organization, the Bayelsa APC Elders Council, carry any credibility.

The former President expressed his concern that such misleading information could be detrimental to the nation’s peace and growth.

He urged Nigerians not to be swayed by the false narratives spread by “mischief makers.”

He underscored the importance of disregarding such attempts to tarnish his reputation and assured the public that the allegations were baseless.

Jonathan also suggested that certain low-profile politicians might have misunderstood the purpose of his visits to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He reiterated that his visit was solely to brief President Tinubu on regional developments.

Furthermore, Jonathan criticized the tactics employed by those trying to smear his reputation, stating that such futile efforts were reminiscent of the criticisms he faced while serving as President.

Nonetheless, he expressed confidence that most astute politicians, both within and outside Bayelsa State, are well aware of his selfless and exemplary approach to politics and statesmanship.

Lastly, the former President refuted any attempts to influence the nomination of a minister from Bayelsa State in President Tinubu’s government.

He emphasized that the claims made by the Bayelsa APC Elders Council lacked substance and credibility.

In conclusion, Goodluck Jonathan urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against misinformation and urged them to focus on issues that truly matter for the country’s progress and prosperity.
