Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has failed in his application to have drug-related charges against him struck out by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Emeka Nwite dismissed Kyari’s application on the basis that the court has exclusive power to hear drug-related cases, in line with the Nigerian Constitution and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act.
Kyari, who headed the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force, is accused, along with four members of the IRT, of conspiring to deal in 17.55kg of cocaine, dealing in cocaine without lawful authority, and tampering with 21.35kg of cocaine seized from two convicted drug dealers.
The other accused members of the IRT are ACP Sunday J. Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba, and Inspector John Nuhu.
