The government of Abia State has declared Thursday a public holiday in order for locals to participate in the state’s ongoing voter registration process.
The government considers that public engagement in the state’s voter registration process has been lower than anticipated.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is in charge of voter registration .
The country is already in the fourth quarter of the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR), which was reopened on June 28 after it was paused for the 2019 general election, according to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu.
However, problems such as invalid registrations have hampered the exercise.
In addition, due to insecurity, INEC has suspended voter registration in portions of Imo State.
As the general elections of 2023 approach, the drill takes on greater relevance.
