Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, shortly after securing re-election as governor of the state.
Adeleke, speaking in a video interview after being declared winner of the Osun governorship election, thanked Tinubu for what he described as allowing democracy to prevail during the poll.
The governor, who noted that the President is a son of Osun State, said he was renewing his endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential contest.
“At this point, I must appreciate the President for a free and fair election. He is a son of this state and I hereby reaffirm my endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” Adeleke said.
The declaration comes despite an earlier appeal by Nigerian music star Davido, a prominent member of Adeleke’s campaign team, urging the governor to withdraw his support for Tinubu while voting and collation were still ongoing on Saturday.
Adeleke’s victory in the governorship election clears the way for him to begin a second term as governor of Osun State, while his renewed endorsement of Tinubu is likely to attract attention within the opposition political camp ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development also highlights the complex political alignments emerging ahead of the next presidential election, particularly as Adeleke remains a senior figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Tinubu is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
