Premier League side join elite list of European champions as Sevilla remain competition’s most successful club

Aston Villa F.C. claimed their first-ever UEFA Europa League title on Wednesday after a commanding 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Turkey.

The triumph marks another significant achievement in Aston Villa’s revival under manager Unai Emery, with goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía and Morgan Rogers sealing a comfortable win in the final.

Villa’s success places the club among the select group of teams to have lifted Europe’s second-tier club competition, widely regarded as one of the continent’s most competitive tournaments.

Despite Villa’s breakthrough, Sevilla FC remain the undisputed masters of the Europa League era, having won the competition a record seven times across multiple generations.

Several major European clubs sit behind Sevilla with three titles each, including Inter Milan, Liverpool F.C., Juventus F.C., Atlético Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur F.C..

Other clubs with multiple triumphs include Real Madrid C.F., Chelsea F.C., FC Porto and Eintracht Frankfurt, each of whom have won the tournament twice.

Aston Villa now joins a long list of one-time winners that includes Manchester United F.C., AFC Ajax, FC Bayern Munich, Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and Atalanta BC.
