In the early hours of Saturday, at least seven farmers were killed in their farmlands in Faru village, Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
According to Garba Abdullahi, an indigene of the area, the victims were in their farmlands for this year’s farming season when they were attacked and killed by the bandits.
According to Abdullahi, one of his relatives, Sani Akwala, was among the farmers killed by the bandits.
“My elder brother, Sani Akwala was among those who were mercilessly killed by these heartless bandits.”
According to Abdullahi, the bandits have been terrorizing the village since the start of this year’s rainy season farming.
He claimed that the bandits vowed that no farming activities would take place in the area this year.

“The bandits have been patrolling the farmlands to ensure compliance with their directive,” Abdullahi explained.
He lamented that farmers would have a difficult time farming this year, and he urged the appropriate authorities to act quickly.
He expressed concern that unless something was done quickly, the people of the village would be forced to relocate.
“We are planning to flee the village due to the growing insecurity challenges because we understand that from all indications, the bandits will not allow us to farm this year.”
Attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, for comment were futile because he could not be reached by phone.
