In a tragic incident, bandits have attacked the Sabon Layi community in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State, leaving 9 villagers dead, including 4 local vigilante members.
The bandits, who reportedly arrived in large numbers, fired indiscriminately, resulting in the loss of lives and the abduction of over 20 individuals.
Additionally, several livestock were also rustled during the attack.
This latest attack comes after recent operations by the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division, which resulted in the neutralization of a notorious bandit leader, Isiya Danwasa, and his accomplices.
Intelligence suggests that Danwasa had planned to send one of his errand boys, named Yunusa, to purchase arms and ammunition in Kaduna town.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, spokesperson of 1 Division Nigerian Army, Yunusa was tracked and apprehended by plainclothes soldiers, who then used him as bait to lure two other bandit leaders to a designated location for collecting ammunition.
The situation remains tense in Kaduna State as security forces work tirelessly to apprehend the remaining perpetrators and restore peace to the affected communities.
