Barcelona are planning a special tribute to club legend Lionel Messi when the renovated Spotify Camp Nou is completed, president Joan Laporta has confirmed.

Speaking during the club’s General Assembly on Saturday, Laporta said the tribute would be held after the stadium redevelopment, which Barcelona hopes to complete by the start of 2028.

“We are planning for the Leo Messi tribute once the Spotify Camp Nou is completed,” Laporta said. “It will be a beautiful tribute. We hope to complete the stadium by the start of 2028.”

Messi joined Barcelona as a teenager and spent nearly two decades at the club, becoming its most decorated player and helping the Catalan side win numerous domestic and European titles.

The Argentine left Barcelona in 2021 after the club was unable to renew his contract, joining Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent before moving to Inter Miami.

Barcelona have maintained their connection with Messi since his departure, and Laporta’s announcement marks the club’s clearest indication yet of plans to formally honour his contribution once the Camp Nou redevelopment is complete.
