Barcelona have confirmed that French defender Jules Koundé has signed a three-year contract extension, committing him to the club until 2030.

The 26-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but talks over an extension had been under way for months. He joins Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Gavi and Pedri in pledging his long-term future to the Catalan side this year.

“I’m very happy here, I feel comfortable in the team and I’m very motivated by the club’s ambition,” Koundé said earlier this month. “Every year we fight for all the titles and I have no intention of leaving.”

Koundé moved to Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022 for an initial €55 million ($64.3m). Signed as a centre-back, he was converted to right-back under former coach Xavi Hernández — a role he has retained under Hansi Flick.

Since his arrival, he has made 141 appearances, scoring seven goals and helping the club win LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Supercopa. His most recent goal — a decisive strike in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid — secured Barcelona the trophy earlier this year.
