In a recent announcement, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has taken a significant step to boost the welfare of serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.

During the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream one Orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, the Governor declared an improved monthly allowance for corps members.

Under this new plan, each corps member posted to the state, regardless of their places of primary assignment, will now receive a monthly allowance of N15,000 from the state government.

Additionally, medical doctors serving as corps members in Benue State will enjoy an even more substantial increase, receiving a monthly allowance of N100,000 each.

Governor Alia expressed his belief that these enhanced allowances would serve as a morale booster for the corps members. He also emphasized the significance of their services to the unity of the nation and urged them to seize every opportunity to make a positive impact on society during their time in the state.

Addressing the corps members, Governor Alia urged them to view themselves as integral to the vision of building a better nation. He encouraged them to embrace their roles as ambassadors of change and to embody values such as integrity, innovation, and compassion.

The Governor emphasized the importance of staying committed to the cause of nation-building and making a meaningful contribution to their fatherland.

Mr. Abe Ashumate, the Benue State Coordinator of the NYSC, commended the Governor’s magnanimity in prioritizing the welfare of corps members during their orientation camp stay, where they were provided with essential items and food.

Prior to this initiative, successive governments in Benue State had provided a monthly allowance of N10,000 to all categories of corps members. The increased allowances are expected to better support the corps members’ well-being during their service year in the state.
