President Muhammadu Buhari has asked that all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) seeking elective office submit their resignation letters by Monday, May 16, 2022.

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, made the announcement after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Ministers of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Godswill Akpabio, Niger Delta Minister Godswill Akpabio, Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ogbonnaya Onu, and Minister of State for Education Emeka Nwajiuba have all entered the presidential race on the APC platform (APC).

Others include Uche Ogar, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel, who is running for governor of Abia State, and Pauline Tallen, the Minister of Women Affairs, who has expressed her intention to run for a senatorial seat in Plateau State.

Mr. Mohammed emphasized that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is not included in this mission because he is an elected member of the cabinet.

He stated that any changes or additions to this instruction would be communicated in a timely manner.

If necessary, the Minister added, the directive might include political appointees.
