In a shocking move, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has stepped down from his role with immediate effect. According to a statement from the Presidency, Ngelale cited pressing medical matters affecting his immediate family as the reason for his resignation.

Ngelale, who also served as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen, submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his decision to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence.

The statement read: “I have taken this agonizing decision after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.”

Ngelale expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve and hinted at a possible return to national service in the future, saying: “I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit.”

The Presidency has yet to announce a replacement for Ngelale, who has been a key figure in President Tinubu’s communication team.
