The Rivers State Executive Council has revoked a ₦134 billion contract awarded during the tenure of the state’s former sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt.
The contract, previously awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the period of emergency rule, was cancelled at a council meeting held on Thursday.
The Council also directed CCECC to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee it had already received for the project.
In a related development, the Council approved the constitution of a six-man committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to assess and make recommendations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state. The centres are aimed at facilitating external examinations.
Additionally, the flood management committee, also led by the Deputy Governor, was instructed to take immediate steps to mitigate flooding in affected areas. Residents were cautioned against blocking drainage systems to prevent further damage.
