The Adopt a Goal for National Development Initiative (AGNDI), a civil society organisation (CSO), has expressed concern over allegations of bribery in the campaign organisation of one of the aspirants for the 10th Senate Presidency in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, the CSO, through its director of programme, Victor B. Martins, described the allegation as weighty and demanded that it not be ignored.

According to the AGNDI, the aspirant in question, a former Chief Executive of a State from the North who is due to be inaugurated into the Senate in June, has been accused of bribing Senators-elect with $10,000 each in exchange for their votes.

Martins stated that the AGNDI had discovered that the former governor was determined to secure the highly coveted position at any cost, including through corrupt means.

The CSO alleges that the former governor is using his ill-gotten gains to book an entire floor at the Transcorp Hilton for his campaign headquarters, at a cost of N500m.

The AGNDI has called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate the allegations and hold the former governor accountable if found guilty.

The CSO has also called on President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be cautious in supporting candidates for leadership positions in the parliament.
