Issa Hayatou, the influential former CAF president, has died in Paris at 77, just a day shy of his 78th birthday. Hayatou, who shaped African football from 1988 to 2017 and briefly led FIFA as interim president, was remembered by FIFA chief Gianni Infantino as a “passionate sports fan” and dedicated sports administrator. His tenure saw South Africa host the 2010 World Cup, marking a historic first for the continent. FIFA extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.
