During a temple fair commemorating the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year in Abuja, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, affirmed a strong commitment to facilitating collaboration between China and Nigeria. He assured Nigeria of robust support to introduce Nigerian products and commodities into the Chinese market within the next five years.

The Chinese Lunar New Year, heralding the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac, falls on Feb. 10 this year, marking a significant cultural event.

Ambassador Jianchun highlighted the substantial economic ties between China and Nigeria, noting their shared cultural heritage and strategic understanding of global affairs and the economy. He emphasized the growing volume of trade between the two countries in recent years.

Acknowledging China’s status as the largest economy in Asia and Nigeria’s prominence as a leading economy in Africa, Jianchun underscored China’s commitment to providing opportunities for Nigerian and other African countries to access Chinese markets. This initiative aligns with the principles of South-South Cooperation, a core aspect of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Jianchun outlined the 5GIST Nigeria-China GDP Strategy, encompassing political alignment, economic cooperation, military collaboration, international coordination, and people-to-people communication. He emphasized collaboration across various sectors, including infrastructure, ICT, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, insurance, banking, and industry.

The Ambassador expressed optimism that Nigerian products would gain entry into the Chinese market over the next five years, fostering innovation and economic growth.

In response, Ja’afaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, extended gratitude to the Chinese government for their unwavering support in strengthening bilateral relations. He announced Nigeria’s plans to host a grand event celebrating the Chinese New Year temple fair, symbolizing the deepening friendship between the two nations.

Yakubu emphasized the significance of cultural exchange and mutual respect in nurturing diplomatic ties. He expressed hope that events like the Chinese temple fair would enhance understanding and cooperation between Nigeria and China, paving the way for increased collaboration in the future.

As both countries look forward to closer ties, the prospect of Nigerian products entering the Chinese market signals a new chapter in their economic partnership, promising mutual benefits and shared prosperity.
