The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has remanded His Royal Highness Eze Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu, the Eze Risi Ohia-Emeri Abali of Rebisi, at Port Harcourt Correctional Facility. The monarch faces charges related to threatening the life of retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli.
Amadi-Worenwu is accused of sending a threatening message on March 28, 2023, to Sunday Gift-Chinenem’s phone, which allegedly caused retired Justice Enebeli to fear for his life. The threats reportedly related to a judgment in a chieftaincy suit involving Amadi-Worenwu.
The traditional ruler pleaded not guilty to the charges. Justice Emmanuel Obele denied a bail request from Amadi-Worenwu’s defense counsel, A.S. Amadi, citing objections from the prosecution. The case has been adjourned to July 29, 2024, for bail consideration, and Amadi-Worenwu remains in custody.
The accused had previously evaded police invitations and jumped bail before his recent arrest and arraignment.
