Afrobeats star says one-year postgraduate course will begin next year

Nigerian music star Davido has announced plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Political Science in the United Kingdom, signalling a return to academia alongside his music career.

The award-winning artist made the disclosure during a recent livestream, where he clarified that his postgraduate studies would not take place at Adeleke University, contrary to earlier speculation.

“I want to do my Master’s next year,” he said, adding that the programme would be a one-year course, in line with many UK postgraduate degrees.

When asked if he would enrol at Adeleke University, the singer responded: “No, in UK… a one-year course in Political Science. I have my BSc already.”

Davido, who holds an undergraduate degree, did not specify the institution he plans to attend.

The announcement has prompted a wave of reactions from fans, with many welcoming the move as a sign of personal growth and a broader interest beyond entertainment.

While best known for his global music success, the singer has also been vocal on social and political issues in Nigeria, and his decision to study political science is likely to fuel further interest in his activities beyond the stage.
