Police in Delta State have arrested a 21-year-old woman identified as Bina for allegedly stabbing the father of her two children to death during a domestic quarrel.
The incident occurred on Jakpa Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The suspect was paraded on Wednesday at the State Police Command headquarters in Asaba.
Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the couple had been cohabiting but were not legally married.
“She has two children for him. Along the line, disagreements arose which eventually led to a fight. During the altercation, she used a weapon to stab the man in the chest, close to the heart, and the man bled to death,” Edafe explained.
Speaking to reporters, Bina admitted there had been ongoing tensions in the relationship. She said the deceased became upset when she sought help from a neighbour to recharge her phone after he ignored her.
“He was angry, saying I wasn’t supposed to meet the neighbour. He then threatened to lock up the shop he opened for me. Things escalated from there, and during the quarrel, I used the weapon,” she said.
The police said investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged in court.
