Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has issued a warning to cultists, kidnappers and other criminal groups to vacate the state or face decisive action from security forces.

The ultimatum came after the demolition of a bungalow in Egbaen Community, Egor Local Government Area, allegedly used by members of the Maphite cult group for initiation rites and ritual practices.

The operation was carried out by the state’s Special Security Squad, codenamed Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers, working alongside security agencies and community stakeholders.

The squad’s coordinator, Idemudia Noah, said the property was linked to suspected cult leader Marvelous Adetarami, who allegedly converted the building into a shrine and meeting point. He disclosed that the premises had earlier been sealed but the suspects resumed meetings at night, prompting the demolition.

Residents, who said they had lived in fear for months, welcomed the action and praised the government’s intervention.

Idemudia reiterated the state’s commitment to tackling insecurity and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“The Edo State Government has promised hard times for those perpetrating criminal activities. There is no hiding place for them. Edo is no longer a safe haven for crime or criminality,” he said.
